Thankfully however, there are proven methods we can utilize to control rodents and even proof buildings to prevent them from even entering.
As specialist pest controllers, we tend to follow a routine for most call outs as follows:
- Assess the hygiene and sanitation of the property – For example, if we found that you left rubbish in open garbage bags, we would advise you use garbage bins with tightly sealed lids instead.
- Thoroughly survey the property for possible entry points and seal them off.
- Make use of a combination of traps and chemical application, depending on what the case require; we only use baits where we can be sure pets and children are not put in danger.
In most circumstances we are able to give you a guaranteed price over the phone. If we can’t, we’ll come out to your property and provide a quote for £45 or free of charge if service is continued.
When contacting us you can help us to give you a more accurate quote by answering our questions as accurately as possible, we will ask you questions such as:
- How many bedrooms does the property have?
- How big is the property/land?
- What is your property made of?
- What access is available to the roof/cellars/basements is there if any?
- How many floors does your property have?
- What type of building is it? Bungalow, cottage, detached, terrace?
Squirrels, rats and mice
The Norwegian rat (Rattus Norvegicus), the House mouse (Mus Domesticus), the Wood mouse (Apodemeus Sylvaticus), and the Grey squirrel (Sciurus Carolinensis) are the main rodents we are called out for on a day to day basis.
Commensal rodents including Rats and ‘House mice’ “Live off mans table,” meaning that they live off our produce and scraps and as such seek out our waste in the most common places including our homes; this is different to that of the Grey Squirrel and the Wood Mouse that are seeking a home, which tend to come with their own set of issues on top of .
Unfortunately, rodents are not a pest that is advised best left alone. Not only can they can transmit diseases such as Leptospirosis (Weil’s Disease), Plague, Salmonellosis, Tapeworm and Rabies, but also have a tendency to gnaw through electrical cables and other materials, and can cause a fairly significant danger as a result.
Generally speaking, rats, mice and squirrels will gain entry and subsequently infest both commercial or domestic properties by utilizing poorly pest proofed methods of entry, and generally result in wear and tear on buildings. Once established both rats and mice will freely breed, creating rather significant numbers in relatively short amounts of time. Larger infestations are generally indicators of poor standards of hygiene and housekeeping combined with a lack of pest awareness and appropriate proofing measures.
